A primary source of entry level counseling staff is through the Daytop Intern Training Program. Clients near graduation are assessed by their directors for inclusion in the program.

Classroom work includes 125 hours toward the 350 necessary for CASAC certification. The first 6 months are an apprenticeship, where they work under a supervising counselor, after which the intern is evaluated for hiring. By the end of the training program interns have the 3 years' experience required for CASAC accreditation.
